Maheshtala College – a Grants in Aid co-education college, affiliated to the University of Calcutta caters to three streams– Arts, Science & Commerce. There are total 15 academic departments out of which nine are in Arts stream, five in Science stream and one in Commerce stream, with Hons in 12 subjects .  A committed group of teachers – 26 fulltime teachers (including Principal),  25 State Aided College Teachers (SACT) and Librarian are engaged in dissemination of knowledge, using a wide plethora of teaching-learning techniques. The dedicated and focused group of 14 non-teaching staff (including 5 casual non-teaching staff) provide administrative and functional assistance to ensure smooth functioning of the college. The dynamic and positive leadership of the Principal synchronizes all the diverse aspects – academic and administrative, to ensure that the stated objectives of the college are firmly adhered to, and carried forward in a relentless pursuit of progress.

The college-building has five wings; one two-storied ( Sudhir Bhandari/Academic Block),a three-storied building (Main Administrative / Benutosh Guha Bhavan)  and another 4 storied building ( Social Studies Block) having  25 classrooms out of which 12 are ICT enabled  , 1 Smart Classroom, 6 laboratories, 4 Teachers' Rooms, IQAC & Conference Room, Exam Control Room and the college-office.  The third building houses the Students ' Canteen, Cheap Store and  Boys‘ Common Room,Gym and  Sports Annexe, and the Central library of the college. All the four buildings are integrated and comfortably accessible. The fifth building is the Students' Union Room, with a washroom.

 The college is an oasis of green amidst an industrial belt, and the verdant green – cover effectively reduces pollution, helps in groundwater conservation and adds aesthetic appeal to a centre of learning. The College also has an Open Air Stage, two small playgrounds, and a two-wheeler parking area. The campus is completely secure with CCTV protection and is WiFi enabled. Maheshtala College campus strictly adheres to Zero tolerance policy against ragging, social discrimination of all sorts and ensures equity in all aspects.

The college integrates traditional teaching-learning with modern ICT based, student-centric pedagogical approach. Individual care of every student and mentoring for holistic development are two focal areas of approach in the college’s integral curricular strategy. Students are motivated to opt for sports and cultural / extra curricular activities that lead to holistic development.

Dissemination of academic aspects with a blending of  traditional value- based education and modern employment-orientation are practised in all functional levels of Maheshtala College.
