The chemistry department of Maheshtala College started its journey in the year 1997-98. Presently it teachers only general course subjects. This department has a qualified permanent teacher. It has well-equipped laboratory and library facilities with all required text and reference books by Indian and Foreign authors both in English and Bengali languages. This department organizes seminar wall magazines, workshops, Science Day celebrations at regular intervals.

Student-Teacher relationship is very cordial and co-operative. The students' success rate in Calcutta university examination is hundred percent and get absorbed in different professions or in further higher education.
