The department of Education started its journey as a part of the general course offered by Maheshtala College since its inception in 1971. Education honours course started in 2003. More than 15 batches have already completed their honours degree from the department. The intake capacity of the department has been increased from 10 to 20. At present department has two full time teachers and one guest teacher.

The departmental teacher regularly uses power point presentation and internet facilities to teach the students, besides the regular class room lectures. The students are given study materials via email and whats app. There is a departmental library that is available to the students as well as the central library. The students are encourage to make wall magazine, poster presentation and also take part in student seminar, quiz, excursion and other academic activities organized by the department.

There are various scope in education. Graduates in Education subject, work in areas like central government departments, museums, community and voluntary organizations, social services, the police and probation services, and universities. They may also get opportunities with both private and public sectors in a range of careers such as retail management, HR, publishing, market and policy research, career guidance and education psychology.
